The keeper of the inn where Goethe lodges in Naples: "Alla Locanda del Sgr. Moriconi al Largo del Castello", the address at which, he writes, letters from all four quarters of the world would find him. Croce recognised him in the "Meuricon" of the Gazzetta Civica of 1785 and found his name on a bank order of the Banco di San Giacomo: Domenico Moriconi paid 120 ducats every four months for two apartments on the Largo del Castello Nuovo. In 1794, Croce further relates, it was he who called the constables against the agents sent for Baron Armfeldt.
